One sunny Saturday morning I was sweeping the footpath outside the front door of our house. I was using a fine strong yard brush that I had bought down at Cunningham's the village hardware store. As I was sweeping I was daydreaming. And this is what I was dreaming.
"I am the Sun in the sky. Truly I am the Sun and know nothing about any Human. Then by somehow I find myself to be a Human. Truly I am a Human and know nothing about any Sun."
With coming out of this daydream, I couldn't rightly say for sure whether I was a Human that had dreamt he was the Sun or the Sun that had dreamt it was a Human. I thought to myself there must be some difference surely between being a Human and being the Sun. Yet, do you know what? I couldn't for the life of me say if I really knew what that difference might be. Verily, I concluded that I am undergoing translations. Now I am the Sun, then here a Human, and there about Something else; continuously translating. And then it came to me that everything then must be undergoing translations all of the time. This thought made a whole lot of goodly sense to me. So I stopped the sweeping for a little while, and leant my oxter on the handle of the brush to look up at the sky that I may give that thought some further consideration. Oh, I don't know for how long I was lost there in such fine contemplation, but didn't I find myself looking across the street at Kay's Flower shop.
Day after day she has it looking lovely; taking great care that the floral displays on the windows are always ahead of festive days such as Valentine's, Saint Patrick's, Daffodil and Mother's Day. They often remind me of the classic 1960 movie “The Time Machine” in which the boutique across the street keeps changing with the times. Trevor's Bridgestone Tyre Centre, that is also on the other side of the street was already open. By the way Trevor is Kay's husband; a diligent and honest man.
I waved to Paul who works there in Bridgestone.
"Nice morning Paul?"
"It is indeed Richard."
Paul's wife Maeve had a baby girl last year. I am very happy for them as this is their first child. May they be with many more blessings.
The morning was quiet with the only sounds being of some happy crows gliding about playfully above the village. Bridgestone was quiet too. You are not going to believe this, but suddenly a giant tyre; yes a giant tyre came rolling out the gate of Bridgestone all of its own accord! It was like no tyre I had ever seen before or have ever seen since. Surely it was three and a half to four meters (twelve feet) in diameter and about a meter (three feet) in width. It reminded me of a tyre you might see on television on one of those super-sized trucks that they use in the copper mines in Chile.
Now most tyres, if not all to the best of my knowledge are coloured black, but this one was clearly coloured a mossy green. But there was something else too very unusual about it. There was someone ‘in’ the tyre! Yes, there was someone in there where the wheel would be and was rolling with it.
I couldn't believe my eyes, and I know you will find this hard to believe, but there sitting inside in the giant mossy green tyre was His Holiness Pope John XXIII who as you may know passed from this world one June evening back in 1963. I believe it was the evening of the 3rd June 1963.
I know you think that I must have been seeing things, but I am telling you, that sitting inside in that giant mossy green tyre, in the glorious morning sunshine was none other that His Holiness Pope John XXIII - Blessed Pope John XXIII since the 3rd September 2000. He was dressed in full papal regalia and wearing a beehive style papal tiara with fleurs-de-lis patterns in it.
